Buildings of the Turnipverse, part 1

The bridge house of Cruzdt was built many years ago by an aged farmer as a turnip store. By keeping the footprint of the building entirely over running water, the canny farmer intended to escape aristocratic land taxes. Sadly, the local toff didn't see the funny side, and the builder was promptly clapped in irons and dragged away, never to be seen again. In the years since, it has been an inn, a gaol, a family home, and the retreat of an eccentric scholar of tuberobotany.

Those days are long past however, and the building now sits empty and unused. Since the thin, stagnant stream dried up into the surrounding bog, the bridge has been host to all manner of unspeakable creatures that lurk beneath the arch, snatching at anybody foolish enough to ascend the ladder in search of the fabled treasure horde of roots that is said to lay within. Those brave few who try find rooty hands and tuberous fingers pulling them down by their ankles and a swift and unfortunate demise beneath the mud.
